We understand that the home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith, (CCC #1666). So we, in conjunction with the family, provide an education program that has the goal of transforming children, parents and families and bring them to a deeper relationship with God through an exposition of the Catholic Church, its beliefs, moral code, rituals and practices, and life of prayer.
Our Religious Education Program runs from September to May and includes sacramental preparation for First Communion (traditionally beginning in first grade and finishing up in second grade) and Confirmation. Our Confirmation program traditionally begins in seventh grade and is completed at the end of eighth grade.
Our Catechists are expected to be a constant example of the love of Christ to our community and to our students. They are given opportunities to form themselves in Catholic beliefs, traditions, and values, in order to model and foster a mature faith that is living, conscious, and active.
Catechist Certification will be done through the Institute of Missionary Discipleship, using content offered from Franciscan University of Steubenville through their Franciscan At Home program, the Diocese of Kalamazoo, and other material as seen appropriate from the Pastor.
Catechist Certification is maintained each year through the completion of 5 hours of content-rich sessions.
